Pets are family and it can be sometimes overwhelming to look for the best advice. Our Oakwood Experts are here to help with any questions around pet care.
How can I make bath time better for my pet?
If your pet is not enjoying bath time, there are a few things you can try to make it better.
What is the best way to remove pet hair from my furniture?
We all love snuggling with our pets on the couch, especially when the weather is cold and wet!
Why do I need conditioner for my dog's coat?
Our Aloe Vera conditioner is great for cats and dogs with a longer coat and it helps remove knots. But it not only detangles long hair and your short haired pets also love our conditioner. It leaves their coat smooth, shiny and glossy.
Do I need special shampoo for a puppy and kitten?
Yes, puppies and kittens are very delicate and their coat is different to an adult dog and cat. We recommend using our Oakwood Puppy & Kitten shampoo which is specifically formulated to be very mild and gentle on younger puppies and kittens. The Oakwood Puppy and Kitten Shampoo is a special sulphate-free formulation, with a chamomile extract that is gentle on the eyes and ears of the young ones.
How can I nourish my dog's coat?
Sometimes shampoo dries out your pet's coat and using a pH balanced shampoo range like Oakwood is really important. Similar to human hair, it’s always a great idea to condition your pets coat after shampooing. This will moisturise your dog’s coat, replacing needed moisture where the natural oils may have been stripped away due to shampooing.
The Oakwood Aloe Vera Coat Conditioner will moisturise the coat after a wash and will eliminate any matted knots and tangles present after shampooing. You can order it directly from our online store here
Why use a pH balanced dog shampoo?
A pH balanced dog shampoo and conditioner ensures your pet's coat and skin don't become dry, irritated and itchy. All of our Oakwood shampoos and conditioners are pH balanced, at a safe acidic level and don’t use any harsh chemicals.
But some shampoos and conditioners upset the natural balance of your pet's coat which may lead to excessive scratching, which in turn will cause abrasions that can allow bacteria and unwanted parasites to invade. Choosing an Oakwood shampoo and conditioner ensures that your dog's coat is moisturised. Our products also replace your pet's protective layer of natural oils, which are scrubbed away during washing, until the coat has naturally replaced the oils.
How can I freshen up my dog's coat in between washes?
Washing your dog and cat is important, but sometimes it is too cold or you are running out of time. We recommend to use Oakwood’s specially formulated Pet Odour Eliminator Cologne to keep your pet smelling fresh and clean. It can also be used on pet bedding, fabric furniture and car interiors and all other areas your pet may roam.
You can order it straight from our online store here.
How do I get rid of cat urine smells?
To combat cat and also dog urine odours, you need an enzyme cleaner to break down the urine crystals. While a vinegar and water solution is often recommended, it actually does not have the ability to break down urine crystals and eliminate the odour. Similarly, cleaners with ammonia are not suitable and may even encourage your cat to spray more as cat urine contains high levels of ammonia.
Speak to your pet shop about an enzyme cleaner to break down the urine crystals. You can then use our Oakwood pet odour eliminator which contains 'monomer esters', which is an active ingredient that does eliminate a wide range of pet odours on pet coats, bedding, carpets, etc. to keep your home smelling fresh and clean.
We also recommend you have a chat to your vet to find a solution to address the spraying problem so wet carpets are a thing of the past.
Why use a specific shampoo for white and grey coated pets?
To make your pet's white and/or grey coat look shiny and bright, we recommend our White and Grey Coat Pet Shampoo.
